No Sew Blanket Fellowship 2011

The real Fall season has finally arrived; Praise the Lord! With the cooler temperature also means the perfect time for our Annual No-Sew Blanket Making Fellowship, Yay!

Joining our hands and hearts together, we will gather on Saturday, November 5th at 10 AM in the Youth Room to make fleece lap blankets which will be donated to seniors. This year, we plan to have a community service outreach to senior homes sometime in mid-December to deliver the blankets and share the love of Jesus with the residents.

We will give a demo to first timers on how to get started with a fleece blanket. For the experienced blanket-makers, we encourage you to find partners and work in pairs (friends, sisters, mother/daughter & son) and fellowship at the same time.

You will need the following items to make a blanket:
----------------------------------------------------
1. a pair of sharp fabric scissors
2. sewing pins or safety pins
3. masking or painter's tape
4. 1 1/3 (1.333) yard cut each of 2 pieces of matching fleece (1 with prints and 1 solid color) from Joann Fabric, or you can buy the pre-packaged and matching fleece that is 48 inches x 60 inches in size. (*Do not get the 60 x 72 inches as that will be too big)

If you do not have time to go to Joann's, we will have extra fleece available for those who would like to come and offer your labor. We appreciate any help we can get. This year, we hope to increase participation in this worthy cause from the youth group as well as the ladies from the Chinese congregation.

A light brunch will be provided while you work on the blankets. We should wrap up by 2 pm.

Community Service - Thank You

Thanks to all of you who participated and prayed for our service at Sunshine Acres today. We brought a shorter version of our Bloomery treat to a group of young girls and we hope that it will help them with their walk of faith.

At the end, the girls made a beautiful pot of flowers for their staff. It was a joyful event for all of us!

Community Service - February 26

From Grace:

We have an opportunity, on February 26, to serve those less fortunate than we by helping in the central kitchen of St Vincent de Paul, a non-profit organization with a mission to serve the needy and the poor. Their central kitchen, located at 420 W Watkins Rd in south Phoenix, prepares over 3500 meals a day for their own five charity dining rooms, plus 17 other non-profit agencies. These charity dining rooms serve the homeless and the near homeless. We will not be cooking, but we will be chopping, slicing and dicing veggies, opening cans and sorting foodstuff etc. We are scheduled to be at the kitchen on Saturday, February 26, from 8am to 11:30am. I will need 10 ladies to sign up for this project. Let’s meet at 7:05am at our church office parking lot and carpool up there. I guarantee it will not be as hot as the last time we were at their kitchen! Please let me know if you have any questions.
