Community Service - February 26

From Grace:

We have an opportunity, on February 26, to serve those less fortunate than we by helping in the central kitchen of St Vincent de Paul, a non-profit organization with a mission to serve the needy and the poor. Their central kitchen, located at 420 W Watkins Rd in south Phoenix, prepares over 3500 meals a day for their own five charity dining rooms, plus 17 other non-profit agencies. These charity dining rooms serve the homeless and the near homeless. We will not be cooking, but we will be chopping, slicing and dicing veggies, opening cans and sorting foodstuff etc. We are scheduled to be at the kitchen on Saturday, February 26, from 8am to 11:30am. I will need 10 ladies to sign up for this project. Let’s meet at 7:05am at our church office parking lot and carpool up there. I guarantee it will not be as hot as the last time we were at their kitchen! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Christmas Cookies Exchange

My dear Sisters in Christ, many of us have been blessing one another during the Christmas season by way of exchanging Christmas cookies with each other.

We would like to keep this Patchwork Sisters tradition. So, will you bake some cookies, bring them on Sunday, December 12 at 12:30pm (right after Sunday School) to the Breezeway (due to space constraint in C102 we have a table in the Breezeway for this purpose) for a joyful time of sharing. If you don't bake or do not have time to bake, store bought cookies are welcome too.

If you still have containers from previous year, please bring it. Otherwise, we provide paper plates and plastic wrap. If you would, please bake a little more so we can prepare some special gifts.

Pam Bakas will help to coordinate this occasion. Please contact Pam or myself if you have any question.

Winter Quarter Sunday School

This quarter, we will be learning from The Truth Project by Focus on the Family. To paraphrase information that comes with the material, this is a dvd-based study designed to equip Christians with a comprehensive biblical worldview in the areas of Philosphy and Ethics, Anthropology, Theology, Science, History, Sociology etc. We will be reintroduced to the truth claims of God for all of life so that our actions match up to our core beliefs.

Date: starting on Dec 5, 2010
Venue : C102 (First room on Fellowship Hall Building)
Time : 10:50 am to 12:30pm (DVD study will be begin at 11 am sharp)

Please note that we will be doing things a little differently because :
1. the selected room is in classroom setting and has the facility needed for this purpose;
2. we need to start at 11 am sharp so that we would not short change any part of the study.
So, please come in earlier to sign in, get some snacks, visit with one another etc before we run the lecture.

You may visit www.thetruthproject.org to learn a little bit more about this program. I have learned that God has used this project to renew minds and transform lives in a great way in quite a number of churches. Let's pray that our Lord will do the same with us.

Tina Zhong and myself will be the facilitators for this quarter. If you have any question, please call or email any one of us. Thank You and we do hope many of you will be studying with us.
Meanwhile, let's be diligent in seeking the Lord and honor Him in all we do . His peace and joy be with you.

Love,
Shirley Wan

Seeking helpers for Christmas Decorating

Patchwork Sisters Ministry will coordinate the Christmas decoration for our church's worship center on Friday, December 3rd, 7:30pm - 9:30pm.
Pizza dinner will be served at 7pm. For those of you who need to send your child/children to Awana, bring them along for the pizza dinner before that.
We need a minimum of 15 ladies. The more hands we have the earlier we get the job done. You do not need to be super creative. Specific area will be assigned and instructions will be given. Please help as we prepare for the celebration of our Lord's birthday. Take this opportunity to fellowship with one another.
We also need help to take down and pack up all decorations on Friday, January 7th 2011 at 7:30 - 9:30pm. A minimum of 10 ladies are need for this.
If you can be part of the team, please email Shirley Wan and indicate the date you will be here to help. Thank You. Your participation will be much appreciated.

As we ease slowly into the "cooler" season of the Arizona Fall weather, we will be getting ready for our third Annual No-Sew Fleece Blanket-making Fellowship. The lap blankets that we will be making will be donated to several senior homes. Your service of love by giving your time and resources to make the blankets will warm the hearts and souls of many recipients this winter. Instructions on how to make the blankets will be provided and light brunch will be served as you work on your blankets. Please save the date and come join us for a wonderful time of fellowship.

Date: Nov 6, 2010
Time: 10am - 2pm
Venue: GPCCC Fellowship Hall

You will need the following items to make your blanket:
1. A pair of sharp fabric scissors
2. Safety pins or sewing pins
3. 2 pieces of matching fleece fabric:
--------------------------------------
Joann's Fabrics will be having a fleece sale from October 17th till 23rd.

1. You can buy the pre-cut and packaged fleece (2 pieces) that has a matching solid and print fleece. The cost is $19.99 per pack for the 48 inch size and will be on sale for "buy one get one free" starting this Sunday.

2. If you prefer to choose your own matching fleece (1 with prints and 1 plain fleece), you should cut one and one thirds of a yard (48 inches) of each fleece. This fleece will also be on sale for 50 to 60% off the regular price starting this Sunday.
