2020 No Sew Blanket

Dear Sisters

This year we will be making no sew blankets at the comfort of our own home.   Retailers like Joann offer curbside pick up for blanket kit purchases.  If you need help getting a blanket kit, please let us know.  There are two deadlines for requests for blanket kits, Nov 8 and Nov 15.   We accept donations to cover costs of blankets.

We will have a virtual 'hang-out' for No Sew Blanket on Nov 14, Sat, from 11am - 1pm via Zoom.  Feel free to stop by to say 'hello', or to ask a question, or to just hang out.  Please contact us for meeting link.

As for finished blankets, please drop them off at Shirley Chang/Pam Baka's home or with Pam Bakas at church after Sunday service.  If you have a special request for pick-up, please let us know.

This year, we will be donating blankets to AZ Friends of the Homeless.  Deadline for blanket collection is: Dec 5.

2018 No Sew Blanket Fellowship

We invite you, your family and friends to join our Annual No-Sew Fleece Blanket Making Fellowship. The blankets that we make will keep many hearts and bodies warm this winter. This is a great community service project as we share the love of Jesus simply through the warmth of a fleece blanket!

We will meet on Saturday, October 20th at 10 AM in the Fellowship Hall. We should finish by 1 PM.
For first timers, we will show you how to make the no-sew blankets, no experience needed!
Tools and materials needed to make the blanket:
-----------------------------—————-----------------------
1. a pair of sharp fabric scissors
2. sewing pins or safety pins
3. blue painter's tape
4. Two pieces of matching fleece that is 48 inches x 60 inches or 72 inches x 60 inches.
Or you can purchase Fleece Blanket Kits from Joann .  You can also sign up for coupons.

If you do not have time to shop for the materials, we will have extra fleece/fabric available for you to make a blanket at the fellowship. We will have a box for voluntary donation and we encourage you to sponsor a blanket.

We will serve a light brunch and you are welcome to bring a plate (fruits or snacks) to the table.  We should wrap up by 1 pm.

*** Update ***
This year, we will be donating the blankets to the residents of the Care Center at Westchester Senior Living.  Westchester is operated by Volunteers of America, a Christian non profit organization that has multiple programs for the poor, homeless, veterans, elderly and other vulnerable populations.  They operate over two dozen Senior Care centers; Westchester being one of them.  We will have a program of Christmas carols, a short message and then distribution of blankets and interaction with the residents on Dec 8.  More details will be available later.

Thank you and may the Lord bless you,
Grace Ganger and Pam Bakas

  • Household items : decorations, wall art, serving platters, bowls, small electrical appliances
  • Books: Christian books, children books, cookbooks
  • Accessories: bracelets, necklaces, scarves, hats
  • Toys: Legos, learning toys, dolls
  • Home-made handicraft (crochet, knitwear, etc), arts, baked goods, special tea or coffee;
  • Admission Tickets to concerts, plays and sports events.
  • Baskets of all shapes and sizes and gift boxes : these will be used to pack items for the Auction.
We are collecting items the next four Sundays on October 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd. Please text or call Sister Pam Bakas if you are bringing your items. Sister Pam Bakas who will be coordinating this event, will wait for you in Room 102 to receive your items.

Please note that organizers will have sole discretion on putting out the donated items for the auction or not. You can choose to take back your item if there is no bid for it, or we can donate it to Goodwill or St Vincent De Paul after the event. Please specify your preference when you drop off your items.

Secondly, please save the evening on October 31st and come out to bid for that special item you will find at this Silent Auction. It will be a fun and meaningful night for all.
